New blog is up and running

This is a new blog of mine about a hobby that I have. This time it is about space, solar storms and what ever is out there in the big empty place that we call space. I am currently working on setting this blog up. So stuff is going to appear here slowly and with time. As it takes time to build up a new blog.

I currently do not have any hardware to monitor space. But my plan is to build and buy hardware to monitor what is going on space. Until that happen I am going to relay on what I can find on the internet. But that means a delay in information about space.

But it is important to know that I do not intend this blog to be as active as my Iceland Volcano and Earthquake blog, or my main Icelandic blog. What actual posting rates are going to be however is a question at current time. But I am going to do my best until I get my own hardware up and running, but that might take a good long while until that happens.

        Thanks for this blog.

ps: second try, it looked like this did not go through the first time around.

  1. Good luck with this Blog Jon.
There is so much to learn about the effects of the physical properties of space and other bodies on our world.
I shall start the comments off with this link that I have found useful for a couple of years.
Aurora watch is based at a University near where I live in Northern England.
Their web site has lots of useful up to the minute information and links to space weather, ACE, weather and Moon. and they will send alerts of any geomagnetic activity to your email or Phone.

I have a question about space. It has been puzzling me for a few years now. Is gravity and magnetism faster than light?
I think that magnetic effects travel right across the entire galaxy in seconds. I only think this I am not sure. If I was sure you would have read about it already.

There are several implications one is:- If magnetism is faster than light it may be possible one day to look at the far side of space in an instant I think. Going there using magnetism would be more difficult probbably impossible.

    1. As far as i understood it. ( I am not scientist) particles cause fields. e.g. Electromagnetic particles cause an electromagnetic field. The particle does not need to travel, the field ( and along with it the particle) is already there.
      I might be completely wrong.

      1. Instant effect, thats a interesting thought.
I believe they are trying to find this answer on the Large hadron collider, not the main experiment, but a side experiment run concurrently with the big one.
Interesting if we get the answer right before the LHC.

I speculate that if God exists he or she is a magnetic object in space, with instant effect, communicating by magnetism to all the living things in the Galaxy instantly. I speculate only in a light hearted fashion. If.

        1. My museum has a cooperation with the CERN now and we have an exhibition running called Origin about the LHC. Thats the reason i had to dig myself deep into particle physiks lately to be able to explain that to our visitors. We even got a lesson of one of CERNS physisist who works with the gravity of antimatter and a ton of lectures will be held at the festival. I find the topic very interesting.

    2. Electromagnetic fields are carried by photons, so their maximum speed is the speed of light.

  3. Btw. I like the idea for that blog.

    1. Some of your post did go into the spam box. I did just recover it from there. This is a new blog, so the anti-spam plug-in has to learn from scratch what is good links and what is bad links.
